Abstract
841,227. Cotton scutchers. DAIWA SPINNING CO. Ltd. Oct. 31, 1957, No. 34026/57. Class 120(1). In a cotton scutcher, a mote knife 3 is positioned under the beater 1 beneath the feed rolls 2, and air supplied from a separate chamber 8 tangentially to a duct 6 extending along the beater circumference is controlled so as to regulate the velocity of air flow along the lower surface of the beater and permit dust to drop from the air flow in the space W between the mote knife and duct 6. As shown, fibres are carried around by beater 1 in an air stream h, the outer stream h of which is deflected around mote knife 3, so that the denser impurities contained therein are shed downwardly into a chamber U, and rejoins the main stream in the zone W preceding duct 6 which has two entry branches 9, 10, the latter communicating with air chamber 8. A pivoted plate 11 can be adjusted to control the air flow through duct 9; the speed of the outer stream h<SP>1</SP> over zone W is thus lowered, permitting the lighter impurites to fall therefrom. The air flow in duct 6 follows a line L tangential to the beater, whereby fibres are separated from the beater and discharged into a space 12.
