Abstract

989,677. Hinges and pivots. SWISS ALUMINIUM Ltd. Dec. 19, 1963 [Dec. 21, 1962], No. 50183/63. Heading E2F. Pivoted movement of the spindle 1 of a hinge is limited by engagement of a T-section rib 4 on the spindle with undercut abutments in spindle bearing members 7 and 8. As illustrated, the spindle 1 mounts the movable side 6 of a metal pallet and the bearing members, formed together with a housing 2 as a single extrusion, are secured to the bottom 24 of the pallet by bases 19 and 20 of the housing walls 17 and 18 fitting in channels formed by flanges 25. The bearing members 7 and 8 are joined by an arcuate strip 21 acting as a bearing surface of the rib 4. Each end of the hinge housing may be closed by a cover having pegs engaging grooves 22 in the housing. In a modification (not shown) the arcuate strip 21 is replaced by a flat strip connecting the housing walls 17 and 18. In a further modification (not shown), the spindle may form the fixed hinge member and the bearing housing may form the movable part.
