Abstract

983, 032. Winding filaments. MONSANTO CO. May 27, 1963 [June 12,1962], No. 21076/63. Heading D1J. A pneumatically operated filament traversing device comprises a filament guide 7 on a piston 5, the piston 5 reciprocating in a tube 1 that has a resilient closure disc 11 at each end. When the piston 5 strikes the left hand disc 11, this disc is temporarily lifted from a reacting 10 and the piston 5 is then blown to the right by compressed air passing through orifices 12 in the disc 11. The left hand disc 11 closes on its valve seat 10 before the piston 5 strikes the right-hand disc 11 to temporarily lift the right-hand disc 11 from its seating 10. Compressed air then enters the tube 1 via orifice 12 in the right hand disc 11 and the piston is blown back on to the left-hand disc. Each disc 11 has a pressure supply chamber 13 on one side which constantly communicates via the orifices 12 with a fluid pressure delivery chamber 14 on the opposite side of the disc. Lubricant is supplied via the tube 21 and opening 20.
