Abstract
975,673. Thermal switches; snap-action switches. TUNG-SOL ELECTRIC Inc. Aug. 4, 1961 [Dec. 20, 1960], No. 28402/61. Heading H2B. A snap action switching device comprises a rectangular vane 10 of resilient conductive material given a natural curvature about a longitudinal axis, a pull strip 4 being secured under tension to diagonally opposite corners 16, 18 to bow the vane away from its natural curvature when the strip is cold and to allow the vane, when the strip is heated, to snap towards its natural curvature bringing about one half of the length of the pull strip into heat conductive engagement with the vane. The pull strip 14 carries a contact 20 which in the cold condition engages a fixed contact 22. The curvature of the vane may be introduced by a crease 12 or by bosses or ribs 28 stamped in the vane. The vane may have an aperture 30 at its centre and strengthening ribs 32 (Fig. 6).
