Abstract

994,787. Thermal switches; arcing preventing in switches. J. C. TAYLOR, and OTTER CONTROLS Ltd. Nov. 9, 1962 [Aug. 10, 1961], No. 28949/61. Heading H2B. An insulating plate is spring-biased to move between the contacts of a snap-action switch, consequent upon opening of the contacts, to prevent arcing. A differentially-stressed bimetallic contact-carrying blade 1, e.g. as described in Specification 600,055, goes over centre upon heating caused by the passage of current therethrough to open contacts 6, 12, with a snap-action. An insulating plate 13 is moved longitudinally of blade 1, Fig. 4, or laterally thereof, Fig. 9, to come between the open contacts 6, 12. Manual resetting of the switch by movement of the plate 13 allows the contacts 6, 12 to meet through an aperture in the plate, and contact 6 latches the plate in that position against its spring bias.
