A mechanically-driven percussive tool, such as a demolition hammer, comprises a percussive piston 2 driven via a crank and connecting rod 4 and having a pin 3, a tapered collar 11 being formed on the pin for positive engagement with a corresponding tapered bore 10 in the piston should breakage occur of cushioning springs 6, 7 located between the pin and piston. In order to permit the escape of air from the bore 10 when the collar 11 is driven therein upon breakage of a spring a groove 12 is formed in the collar; alternatively, a longitudinal bore may be provided in the collar.
