Abstract

969,930. Sanitary closets. GEORGE HOWSON & SONS Ltd. June 4, 1963 [March 8, 1962; July 9, 1962], Nos. 8875/62 and 26179/62. Heading E1C. A water-closet suite comprises a flushing cistern 19 with an outlet in its bottom (Fig. 2), and a closet pedestal 10 having a rearwardly extending platform with a cavity 14 having a top inlet, the bottom of the cistern 19 and the top 11 of the said platform being such that they can be fitted close up to each other as well as spaced apart from each other, detachable fittings being used to deliver water from the cistern 19 into the pedestal 10. A syphon outlet 30 (Fig. 1) from the cistern 19 communicates with the cavity 14 and is formed with an extension emerging on the underside of the cavity 14 for fastening. An air suction pipe 20 communicates with the syphon outlet 30 and has one or more air extractor holes in an air space 16 between traps 17, 18. When separated the cistern 19 and pedestal are connected by an external sleeve 35 (Fig. 3) with a threaded lower end 35a for screwing into a socket in a boss 28. The cavity 14 communicates with the rim 15 and is above a partition 13 below which is the air space 16. In a modification there is only one trap and no air space, the syphon outlet does not have an extension with suction holes and only supplies water into the flushing rim, the pedestal having a solid portion at the rear which forms the trap.
