966,862. Manhole covers. L. B. LINDH. Dec. 1, 1960 [Dec. 14, 1959], No. 41329/60. Heading E1G. A circular manhole cover 1 with a plane upper face 4 and a concave lower face 5 carries intersecting flanges 2, 3 the height of which decreases outwardly from the point of intersection, the flanges having fan shaped extensions 10 at each end. The flange 3 terminates inside a rim 6 by which the cover is supported on a frame 9. The flange 2 extends below part of the rim 6 and has a horizontal slot 11 at each end in which engages a flange 8 on the frame 9, cut outs 14 accommodating the part 15 of the flange 2. Adjacent one side of the cutouts 14 the flange 8 gradually thickens so that when the cover is turned the slot 11 forms a friction fit with the flange 8. When the cover is turned to release it, an abutment 13 stops the cover with the flanges 2 opposite the cutouts 14.
