Abstract

897,747. Suspended ceilings. TIBBY, L. Jan. 19, 1961 [April 21, 1960], No. 13937/60. Class 20(4) A suspended ceiling comprises parallel frame members 16, Fig. 1, extending in discontinuous lines across the ceiling, and panels 18 engaging the frame members each by only small parts of the lengths of the edges. In the exemplified embodiment, each frame member 16 extends across the junction between the ends of adjacent panels. The frame members 16 may have a keyhole-shaped cross-section and may be suspended from inverted channel-shaped support members 10 by a one-piece-U-shaped stirrup 15 having keyhole-shaped apertures 14 in each of its limbs to receive the frame members. In a modification the stirrup is formed by two parts 21, 22, Fig. 4, which are connected together by hooked parts 23. In a further modification the frame members 29, Fig. 5, are supported by an L-shaped hanger 25 having a hooked portion 26 engageable with the upper flange of a horizontally disposed channel section support 10. The frame members 16 are adapted to yieldably engage upwardly and inwardly directed flanges 19 of tray-like panels 18 whilst the frame members 29 are adapted to yieldably engage punched-out sections 31 on edge walls 32 of panels 33. At the ceiling edges L-shaped members 34, Fig. 6, co-operate with wedges 38, Fig. 7 (not shown) to support panel ends from a channel sectioned support 10.
