962,602. Cartons. HUGH STEVENSON & SONS Ltd., and E. B. HILL. Jan. 23, 1963 [Feb. 19, 1962], No. 6379/62. Heading B8P. A carton comprises a base portion co-operable with a lid portion, each portion being so formed from a single blank that each side of the assembled carton is constituted by at least three thicknesses of material and the ends of the carton by at least two thicknesses. Each blank is divided into four contiguous panels 1-4 which are folded through 90 degrees about their crease lines and secured by adhesive, stitching or stapling to form the sides of the base or the lid portion. Two adjacent panels are extended to form further panels 8 and 9, and second further panels 12 and 13, which are bent through 90 degrees to close one end with a double thickness of material (panels 8 and 9) and to give a double thickness of material to two sides (panels 1 and 12 and panels 2 and 13). The carton is made of double backed corrugated paper, the lid portion may be secured to the base portion by metal binding, and hand grips may be cut from the sides of the lid to facilitate removal thereof.
