1299359 Postal folder for books &c REED INTERNATIONAL Ltd 8 May 1970 [1 April 1969] 17056/69 Heading B8C A rectangular sheet 1, made of cardboard, corrugated board &c., for forming a shockabsorbing cover for a book, has a flap 2 or 3 released by cuts 5 from each of two opposite sides 4 to leave two parts 7 on each side of each flap, and two fold lines 8 each extending parallel to one of the remaining two opposite sides 9 of the sheet and into the corresponding parts 7 to meet the edges of these parts at points intermediate their ends, the arrangement being such that two such sheets can be formed into a folder for a book. A postal folder, Fig. 2, is formed by upper and lower sheets having their flaps 2, 3 and sides 9 bent downwardly and upwardly respectively through an angle of 90 degrees about their respective fold lines 6, 8, the folder being secured with cord, adhesive tape, elastic bands &c., or by contact adhesive which may coat the flaps 3 and folded sides 9. Corners 13 afford protection for the enclosed book. Two sheets (20, 21), Fig. 3, not shown, can be joined at a fold line (29a) along a common smaller side of the sheets to provide a one piece cover from a single blank, cuts (29, 30) releasing the flaps at the common side. In a modification, Fig. 4, not shown, each cut (30) comprises a lozengeshaped cut-out and each of the flaps is of trapezoidal shape the flaps (22, 23) at the free sides (24) projecting laterally beyond the latter. In a further modification. Fig. 5, not shown, a common fold line (51) joins two identical sheets (52, 53) each having a flap (41 or 42) in each of its shorter edges. Another arrangement of two combined sheets comprises a central portion (57), Fig. 6, not shown, which is similar to that shown in Fig. 1 and which is joined, at each side to a half-sheet (58 or 59). This latter arrangement may be formed with lozenge-shaped cut outs (65), Fig. 7, not shown.
