Abstract
959,739. Cable terminations. G. & W. ELECTRIC SPECIALTY CO. Oct. 9, 1962, No. 38164/62. Heading H2E. A power cable termination device comprises a terminal lug 18 on the bared conductor end, a stress relief cone 22, 24, the cone and bared cable insulation being surrounded by a non- hygroscopic barrier 28 composed of glass, nylon or polyester fibre tape bonded by a resin such as epoxide or polyurethane, and an insulator 34 of a ceramic such as porcelain, glass, alumina or steatite arranged as shown. The cable shield 16 is continued at 24 in the stress relief cone by a metal shield 26 which may be of copper tinsel braid, copper braid or foil. In a modification, the ceramic insulator 34 includes a metallic shielding ring 36 (Fig. 2, not shown), connected to the shield 26 by a conducting strip 38. In another modification, the ring 36 is replaced by a metallized surface 40 (Fig. 3, not shown).
