Abstract

1,025,686. Cable terminations. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. Jan. 24, 1963 [Jan. 25, 1962], No. 2975/63. A pothead for connecting an oil-filled cable to a transformer enclosed in a tank so that the cable does not have to be bent close to the tank comprises a core situated in a housing, said housing having an insulator 6, Fig. 1, for entering said tank and a metallic tube 1 which consists of a straight and a curved part, said core consisting of a conical part situated in insulator 6 and a straight and curved part situated in the straight and curved part of the housing, the straight part of the core being adapted to enclose the cable end. The core has voltage controlling foils 14 and metallic foils 13 forming an earthed shielding tape wound with insulating paper strips on a tube 12 made of insulating material and a metallic tube 33. The outermost of foils 14 is preferably extended to be the outermost foil of the metallic foils 13 which are connected together and to tube 1 by earthed element 15. At the conical face of insulator 6 short foils may be inserted between a reduced number of through foils, a good control of the electric flux still being obtained. Metallic tube 1 has a flange 2 for fastening the pothead to the transformer tank, a flange 4 for connection of anchoring means for the cable sheath and armouring, and nipples 5 which connect the housing to the oil system of the cable (not shown). The insulation layers of the cable end are cut away to form connecting plug fitting 16, Fig. 2, for insertion into resilient contact 10 of the pothead. At 17 the cable sheath is cut away and soldered to flange 4 at a point 18 and the cable insulation is increased conically up to 19 where the diameter of the cable is slightly less than the diameter of tube 12. Outside the conical part a shield 20 is arranged which is connected to the earthed shielding tape at the cable 17 and is separated by a small distance from the metallic foils 13.
