Abstract

942,142. Coaxial cables. NORTH WESTERN SPECIALITIES Ltd. July 27, 1961 [July 11, 1960], No. 24099/60. Heading H1A. A coaxial cable, one embodiment of which is shown in Fig. 1, utilizes a metal tape T for one, or the, outer conductor. This tape T is wrapped around the dielectric so that its edges either overlap or are closely adjacent and is protected by a covering 11 which is preferably of a conducting material of high specific resistivity. Adjacent to the tape and in electrical contact with it is a conducting open mesh braid 10 which maintains the connection if the tape is damaged. This braid 10 may be either above or below the tape but is preferably above it. One or more extra conductors may be added by means of braids B which may be in contact with, or insulated from, the tape T (Figs. 3, 4). It is stated that the metal tape may be shaped around the inner conductor and insulant as the latter emerges from the die of an extrusion machine.
