Abstract

In a cylinder and dial knitting machine, the number of needles p per inch is greater in one or more parts of the circumference than in the remainder, e.g. 20 instead of 14, the transition being made by a gradual increase and decrease in the number of needles per inch. The fabric knitted on the machine thus has a panel or panels in which the stitch formation is denser forming a "reinforcement". The parts may be of different widths but a different cylinder and dial must be provided for every variation in width and number of parts.
