Abstract

950,012. Two-part couplings. CAMBRIDGE THERMIONIC CORPORATION. June 6, 1961 [June 10, 1960], No. 20373/61. Heading H2E. A self-locking- plug-and-jack assembly comprises a jack-unit 2 (Fig. 3) provided with a notch 16 extending through the jack wall with segmentally chordal keys 26.1, 26.2, fitted therein and a cylindrical plug unit 4 (Fig. 1) having a notch 38, the keys being inwardly constrained to hold the members 2 and 4 together by circumferential split springs 30.1, 30.2 and being forced outwards on relative rotation of members 2 and 4 by the end edge of notch 38 to permit withdrawal of plug member 4. A modification of the assembly includes a single segmentally chordal key 26.3 (Fig. 7) resting in a tapered shouldered notch 38.1 in the plug. Contact between the plug and jack members is improved by the pressure of the spring members through the keys.
