Abstract

834,754. Lamp-holders. KRUMM, J. L. June 16, 1958 [June 17, 1957], No. 19264/58. Class 38 (1). The plug-pin 8 of, e.g. a cold cathode discharge tube for use in an explosive atmosphere makes contact with head 5 on metal element 2 slightly before abutment 9 of the plug element engages the end of socket member 6, further movement of pin 8 then moving members 1 and 4 inwards together against springs 10 and 13 until member 2 meets current carrying member 14. Members 1 and 4 cannot be moved independently owing to the jamming of spherical members 17 in such circumstances between waisted surface 19 of member 4 and inner surface 12 of housing 7. Instead of spherical members 17, locking may be effected by making axial incisions in the inner end of member 1 so that radially movable sections are obtained and forming member 4 with a thickened portion so that if one member is moved axially while the other is held in place by a spring, the sections are urged radially outwards and jammed between member 4 and the inner surface of housing 7.
