In a conveyer installation in which load carriers 13 are propelled along a track 12 by dogs 14 depending from a driving chain 11 running on a track 10 and an advancing carrier is arrested at a position spaced in rear of a stationary carrier by the operation of one of a number of actuating elements 16 by a stationary carrier to move an associated next in rear carrier drive disengaging element 15 into an operative position to disengage the dogs 14 from driving engagement of the next in rear carrier 13 there is associated with at least the foremost drive carrier disengaging element 15 a stop member 17, movable into and out of the operative position with a disengaging element 15 to preclude continued forward movement of the carrier 13, which is mounted on a support 18 and is displaceable relative to the support 18 in a forward direction against the loading of a spring 22 such that an application of a driving force to a carrier 13, arrested by the stop member 17, to move the carrier 13 forwards, displaces the stop member 17 forwardly to engage an operating member 32 of a power cutoff device 31 to cut off the driving power to the chain 11. In the arrangement shown, the stop member 17 is L-shaped in plan view and is provided with a nose portion 23 which lies in the path of a carrier driving member 26 when in the operative position. If, at the position of arrest of a carrier 13, the driving dogs are not lifted out of driving engagement with a carrier driving member 26 or a succeeding carrier abuts the stationary carrier the stop members 17 is moved forwards against a spring 22 and pins 28 on the stop member 17 move out of a notch 27 and into a recess 30 in the support member 18 and the stop member 17 in so moving depresses a member 32 to actuate a power cut-off switch 31 to stop the movement of the driving chain 11.
