The formation of spots caused by metals or their compounds in photographic silver halide emulsions is prevented by adding to the emulsion or other layer of the material a compound of the formula: - wherein R 1 is hydrogen, a phenyl group or a pcarboxyphenyl group and R 2 is hydrogen or an alkyl group. The light sensitivity of silver chlorobromide emulsions is said to be increased by some of the compounds. Specifications 913,591 and 948,442 are referred to.
