Abstract

1,020,830. Photographic silver halide emulsions. EASTMAN KODAK CO. Oct. 26, 1962 [Oct.26, 1961], No. 40928/65. Divided out of 1,018,755. Heading G2C. The sensitivity of a silver halide emulsion which has been sensitised by a compound of the formula:- in which R<SP>1</SP> is an alkoxy, alkyl, aryl or dialkylamino group, Q is an oxygen or sulphur atom or an imino group, is increased by the incorporation in the emulsion of methane sulphinic acid, methane disulphinic acid, ethane sulphinic acid, benzene sulphinic acid, p-chlorobenzene sulphinic acid, ptoluene sulphinic acid, p-anisol sulphinic acid, pacetanilide sulphinic acid, salicylic-5-sulphinic acid, #-naphthalene sulphinic acid cyclohexane sulphinic acid or thiophene-2-sulphinic acid or water-soluble salts thereof. Other sensitising materials such as gold, ruthenium, palladium, iridium or platinum salts e.g. potassium chloroaurite, chloroaurate and aurithiocyanate and auric trichloride, colour couplers, hardeners, antifoggants and tone-modifiers may be present. An example describes silver bromiodide emulsions containing benzoyl disulphide with and without sodium ptoluenesulphinate.
