Abstract

947,682. Floor scrubbing machines. ELECTROLUX CORPORATION. July 9, 1962, No. 26196/62. Heading A4F. A floor scrubbing machine comprises rotary brushes 60, Fig. 2, mounted below a base member 20, a cleaning liquid tank 174 removably mounted upon a manupulating handle 132 pivotally connected to base member 20, means for conveying liquid from said tank to the floor adjacent brushes 60, a liquid pick-up suction nozzle 94, a waste liquid tank 172 removably mounted on handle 132 and connected between the nozzle 94 and a fan 30, the waste liquid being separated from the air in tank 172 by baffle means 194. The handle 132 may be moved to a position 45 degrees from the vertical whence by moving up said handle a locking ring 180 the tank 172, 174 may be removed, the tank 174 comprising two reservoirs one for a detergent and the other for clear rinse water. Supporting wheels 80, 82 are retracted so that the machine rests on rotary brushes 60. A lever 234 on the handle operates valve means 208 to permit a controlled flow of detergent on to the floor, and after sufficient scrubbing a lever 116, Fig. 8, is moved to lower the suction nozzle 94 and squeegee 126 and open valve means 112 and by to and fro movement of the machine the excess dirt and water is carried by the suction air via conduit means 90, 182, 186 to the upper part of container 172 where a baffle 194 separates liquid from air. To remove all traces of detergent the floor may be rinsed by operation of a second lever 234 to open valve 208, the liquid being sucked up from the floor. If required the nozzle 94 may continuously be in contact with the floor. The device may also be used as a polisher in which case a wax reservoir 150 is attached to the lever part of handle 132, nozzle 94 is raised and liquid wax is applied to the floor by operation of a piston or cylinder arrangement 170, 162, 161. The brushes 62 may be replaced by larger softer brushes mounted for relative vertical movement and wheels 80, 82 lowered the machine then being used to brush and shampoo carpets.
