945,721. Control of A.C. motors. SIEMENS SHUCKERTWERKE A.G. May 12, 1961 [May 12, 1960], No. 17463/61. Heading H2J. An electromagnetic brake 10 on a hoist motor has an interlock switch 17 whereby the motor cannot be switched to any but its lowest speed until the brake is fully released. The motor is energized through reversing contactors 5, 6 and pole changing contactors 2, 3, 4, all operated by a drum type master controller 9. The energizing coils of contactors 5, 6 and 2 (providing slowest speed in either direction) are supplied from line 18, but those of 3 and 4 (for higher speeds) have the interlock switch 17 interposed. The brake is released when auxiliary contacts 15 or 16 on contactors 5, 6 complete the circuit of a brake magnet contactor 14. It is stated that the switch 17 also reduces the holding current through the brake magnet.
