Abstract

943,132. Valves. K. A. LANCEY, W. A. GAMMON, and S. F. HEDWORTH. Sept. 18, 1962 [Sept. 22, 1961], No. 34081/61. Heading F2V. A gas cock comprises a housing 10, Fig. 3, having a stepped bore in which a control member is reciprocated. The control member comprises a larger diameter portion 15 and a smaller diameter portion 16 on which an 0-ring seal 17 is provided such that the control member stops the flow of gas when the portion 16 is moved into the smaller diameter portion 14 of the bore. The control member is moved axially on rotation by a helical groove 21 engaged by a pin on the housing. Rotation of the control member may be provided by rotation of a shaft 26 as described in Specification 649,364. The portion 15 is preferably provided with an oblique cut-away 20 which provides unrestricted flow from the inlet 18 when the valve is fully opened, but throttles the flow during the closing of the valve. In a modification, the larger diameter portion 45, Fig. 5, of the control member is hollow and opens through an aperture 48 to allow flow when the valve is open. A pin 49 on a rotatable disc engages a groove 51 of the control member to reciprocate the member.
