Abstract

1,026,667. Valves. BASTIAN-BLESSING CO. July 26, 1963 [Aug. 1, 1962], No. 29680/63. Heading F2V. A valve controlling the flow from a tank 17 comprises a valve 12 connected to a flange 10 of the tank and to a pump 14. The valve 12 comprises a body part 22 having an outlet at its lower end and a valve seat 30 at its upper end. A cylinder 42 is screwed on to the body 22 and houses a piston portion of a valve closure member 46, the cylinder being provided with inlet ports 44. The valve member is urged towards the closed position by a spring 66. A control valve 78 in the valve piston has a closure element 86 and is urged to the closed position by a spring 84. The valve 78 is guided by a boss 80 in an aperture 82 of a wall 62 which extends partially across a bore 56 of the piston. The control valve is connected by a rod 120 to a piston 114 which is subjected to the pressure in a space 115 supplied through a pipe 108 having a restricted connection 112 to the valve body. The pipe 108 is connected to the outlet side of pump 14. A manually rotatable rod 133 is connected to the rod 120 by a pin 118 and has a mark 139 on the end which indicates the position of the rod 120 and hence the valve piston. When the pump 14 is not running the piston valve is closed and the liquid in the tank passes through a filter 34 a radial passage 88 and bore 56 to the upper side of the piston and also through a valve by-pass passage 144, controlled by a throttle 154, to the downstream side of the piston valve, to prime the pump. The pressure in space 115 is also at the pressure on the downstream side through restriction 112. When the pump is started pressure is fed to space 115 to raise the piston 114 which first opens the control valve to allow flow from the top of the piston and the control valve then abuts the partition 62 and further movement of the piston 114 opens the piston valve 46 to allow flow from the tank. The opening of the piston valve is also assisted by the liquid in the tank acting on the lower face of piston portion 48. When the pump stops, the valve closes with leakage from the space 115 through restriction 112. The valve may be opened manually by rotation of rod 133. The tank may be filled by a connection to the valve body on the downstream side of the piston valve.
