Heading E2A Door fastening means comprises a support member 12 adapted to be mounted on the door of a vehicle, a handle 14 pivotally connected to the support member, a handle extension 18 mounted on the handle 14 for movement relative thereto and adapted at one end to engage catch releasing means 23, and a lever 21 pivotally connected to the support member, one end of the lever being connected to a stop 20 which is movable through the intermediary of pivotal movement of the lever between a position in which movement of the handle extension 18 relative to the handle 14 is restricted or prevented so as to enable the handle extension 18 to actuate the catch releasing means when the handle is pivoted, and a position in which such relative movement of the handle extension is not so restricted or prevented so that pivotal movement of the handle 14 is ineffective to actuate the catch releasing means, the lever 21 being pivotal by key operable locking means 26 and also by further locking means which are respectively operable in use from the outer side and the inner side of the door. As shown, the support member 12 is recessed for the handle 14 which is pivoted herein and which includes a projecting end portion 16 by means of which the handle may be pivoted outwardly of the recess. The handle is releasably retained in one or the other of its extreme positions by a spring-loaded device 17. The stop 20 which is co-axial with the pivot axis of the handle 14, is movable on the axial direction to engage or disengage an adjacent end of the extension 18. In the engaged position, the extension 18 also engages a spring-loaded lever 22 connected to the catch releasing means, pivotal movement of the lever 22 rotating the catch releasing means 23 out of engagement with a toothed catch 10. A pawl 24 is rotatable into engagement with the catch 10 through a resilient connection 25 between the lever 21 and the pawl 24, by means of the lock 26, diametrically opposite projection 27 of which engage recesses in the lever 21. The locking means at the inside of the door comprises a lever 28 which is operative to rotate lever 21 to the inoperative position and to simultaneously rotate pawl 24 into engagement with the catch 10.
