Abstract

1,209,283. Door fastenings. P. J. VERBEKE and J. G. ABBOTT. 14 July, 1969 [17 March, 1969], No. 35314/69. Heading E2A. A device for fastening a door against a jamb comprises an elongated blade 12 having a laterally projecting lug 24 and ratchet teeth 14, a body 18 adapted to slidably receive the blade and provided with a shoulder 44 extending in a direction opposite to that of the lug 24, a pawl 20 pivotally connected to the body and biassed by a spring 52 into engagement with the teeth 14, a handle 22 pivotally attached to the body and including a projection 62 for engaging in a recess 64 in the pawl whereby when the handle is moved toward the blade the pawl is disengaged from the teeth to allow adjustment of the body on the blade, and means, such as a pin 68, for holding the handle in a locked position to prevent release of the body from the blade. In use, the lug 24 is located on the outside face of the door jamb and the shoulder is disposed on the inside face of the door.
