Abstract
939,395. High vacuum pumps. VARIAN ASSOCIATES. Feb. 22, 1962 [Feb. 27, 1961], No. 6977/62. Class 8(1). The hermetically sealed and refrigerated absorbent-containing casing 11-13 of a vacuum pump of the sorption type is provided with internal heat conducting axially and radially extending metal fins 18 each contacting the inner wall of the casing body 11 which is surrounded by a bath of liquid nitrogen 23, Fig. 3 (not shown). The absorbent material e.g., charcoal is thereby more quickly cooled. An outlet tube 14 has flanges 15 for connection to a system to be evacuated and brand which is normally closed by a stopper 16 which is removed to allow passage of warm regenerating gas.
