Abstract

934,247. Book-rest tables. H. WEINBERG. June 20, 1962 [Sept. 14, 1961], No. 33004/61. Class 52 (3). Reading matter is supported face downwards on a rigid transparent sheet incorporated in a frame, the frame being provided with support means thereby to facilitate reading from below, e.g. from a bed. Transparent sheets 16 are removably supported by channelled U-frames 13 centrally secured by hinge plates 14 and carrying on their outer sides tubes 15 telescoped on parallel arms 8, 9. A tubular arm 7, which has welded thereto the arm 8 and telescopically receives the L-shaped arm 9, engages over an arm 6 projecting laterally from an adjustable, telescopic upright 2, 3 and carries at one end a slotted segment plate 11 which is adjustably locked by a screw 12 to the upright 3, thereby providing an angular adjustment for the arms 8, 9. Reading matter of various thicknesses is held against the sheets 16 by boards 22 pivotally mounted in a metal strip 21 in turn pivotally connected at one end to a slidable plate 19 locked by a screw 20 in a guide member 17 secured to the frame 13. The device may be used as a bed table with the sheets 16 horizontal, a table top 24 being provided to engage over the frames 13. In this arrangement the ledged boards 22 serve as a book rest, the strip 21 being pivoted upwardly and held by a strap 25<SP>1</SP> having a keyhole slot engaged over a pin 26 on the arm 7.
