MW 4 w m 4 i w Patented Jan. 23, [951 I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE \FDRAWYING PAPER HOLDER Q I Leo Ralph Holway,'Denver, 0010. I Application December 5, 1946, Serial No. 714,227
(Granted under the act of March 3, 1883, as
amended April.30, 1928; 370 0. G. 757) 3 Claims.
The invention described herein may be manufactured and used by or for the Government of the United States for governmental purposes without the payment to me of any royalty thereon in accordance with the provisions of the act of April 80, 1928 (Ch. 460, 45 Stat. L. 467) This invention relates to a drawingpaper holder and has for its object to conveniently position drawing paper on a drafting table or'th like.
With this object inview, the inventionconsists of the construction which permits the drawing paper to be mounted on rollers which are disposed horizontally of the holder and which also permits the drawing paper to be mounted on rollers which are disposed vertically of the holder.
Specifically the invention consists of the construction which permits the paper mounting rollers to be changed from a horizontal position on the holder to a vertical position thereon.
The invention also consists of certain other details of construction and combinations of parts, all of which will first be fully described and afterwards specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
Referring to the accompanying drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the drawing paper holder with its paper mounting rollers in horizontal position.
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation showing the holder in two positions.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary perspective view of the holder with its paper mounting rollers in vertical position.
Fig. 5 is an enlarged fragmentary view of one of the paper mounting rollers with drawing paper thereon within one of its adjustable roller retaining ring brackets, taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 6 is a front elevation of the drawing paper holder on a modified form of swivelling mounting arms. I
Fig. '7 is a side elevation of the same, and
Fig. 8 is a plan view of the preferred form of the mounting arm for the drawing paper holder.
Like numerals of reference indicate the same parts throughout the several figures, in which:
I indicates the drawing paper holder which is essentially of easel formation and including a base 2 to which is hinged at 3 (Fig. 3) a front board l, which is itself hinged at 5 (Fig. 3) to a similar board or back 6 which is adapted to rest in one of a series of grooves formed in the base 2, so that the front board 4 may be tilted into various positions as indicated in Figs. 3 and '7.
The base 2 may also be provided with an elongated recess 8 along the front edge thereof for the reception of pens, pencils or the like.
At'each of the four corners of the front board 4 is pivotally mounted a roller retaining ring bracket (i. These brackets 9 have flat portions l0 adapted to lie flat on the face of the board, each to receive a bolt I! which passes through the board 4, for the reception of a wing nut l2 on the rear face of the board l, as best shown in Fig. 5.
Each of the ringbrackets ii is provided with an opening l3 through which the drawing paper I4 passes and is of a size to accommodate a roller l5 and the drawing paper l-l rolled thereon. As a result of this construction, the roller retaining ring brackets 9 may be" swung from their vertical positions shown in full lines in Fig. 2 to the horizontal positions shown in dotted lines in said figure so that the rollers I5 may be supported in a horizontal position as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 or in a vertical position as shown in Fig. 4. and in dotted lines in Fig. 2. To support the rollers I5 when in vertical position, the base 2 may be providedwith recesses It to receive the lower ends of the rollers, as best shown in Fig. 4, while the ends of the drawing paper may be secured to the rollers IS in any suitable manner as by pieces of Scotch tape ll as indicated in Fig. 2. By means of this construction the drawing paper I l may be rolled on and supported by rollers l5 positioned horizontally on the board 4 or on the rollers when positioned vertically thereof.
The drawing paper holder may be positioned on a drawing table or the like in various ways. It may be simply pivoted on a support I8 which has a short post I?) passing through an aperture 20 suitably formed in the base 2 as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, or it may be pivotally mounted upon a swinging arm 2| pivoted to a block 22 conveniently positioned and secured to a table or the like as by bolts 23 (Figs. 6 and 7). The arm 2| is preferably of two sections 24 and 25 pivotally connected together as at 2i (Fig. 8) so that the "section 24 may swing on the section 25, as indicated in dotted lines, and be secured in desired position, by a wing nut 28. By means of such construction the drawing paper holder may be disposed in the most convenient position when in use and swung into an out of the way position on the table when not in use.
Having thus described the invention, I claim:
1. A device for holding a paper sheet roll with a section thereof spread for display, the device comprising a sheet support member adapted to have such spread section disposed thereon, and ring brackets mounted on the support member for pivotal movement in a plane parallel therewith and adapted to embrace opposed rolled portions of the sheet for providing said spread section therebetween, said brackets being adapted to be swungdntmpositions for .lioldingsaid rolled portions adjacent' the top and bottomof the sup port member as well as adjacent the sides thereof to dispose the spread section vertically as well as transversely of the support member.
2. A device for holding a paper sheet rxi-llwith a section thereof spread for display, thedevice comprising a board adapted to have'su'chspread section disposed thereon, and lring zbrackets "L mounted on the board for pivotal adjustment in a plane parallel With the adjacent boardsur'fa'ce, said brackets being adapted toembraceopposed rolled portions of the sheet for providing said spread section therebetween and to be pivotally adjusted to positions :f-or iholdingsaid rolled ;portions adjacent the top and bottom edges of the board as Well as ad-jacent the sides thereof to dispose-the spread section vertically aswell-astransverselyof the board.
3. A device for holding -afpaper sheetsroll with a section thereof spread for "display, 'the device comprising a base, va board projectingaupwardly of the base and adapted to haversuch spread section disposed thereon, ring brackets mounted on the board for pivotal adjustment parallel with ;cent the sides of the board to dispose the display section transversely of the board, and a pair iof rodsipi ojecting one each through said rolled ,portions,.,and means on the base for retaining thel'otver ends of the rods when the latter are \disposedjnmn'uiptight position.
