Abstract

924,903. Wells. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. Aug. 15, 1960 [Aug. 17, 1959], No. 28168/60. Class 85. A well-head comprises a casing-head closure 11 having conduit means 15, 16, a spool piece 21 having conduit means 22, 23 forming vertical extensions of the means 15, 16, smoothly curved side conduit means 24, 25 branching from the spool and merging into the means 22, 23, closure means 56 for the means 22, 23 and re-entry conduit means 57 mounted on the closure means 56. A master valve 18 similar to the means 56 may be interposed between the casing-head closure and the spool piece, and valves 30, 31 may be placed between the side conduit means and their extensions 32, 33 which lead along the ocean floor to a tank (not shown). Tools may be fed into the well through the extensions, plugs 34, 35 being provided to guide the tools as they leave the well into the extensions. The plugs have fishing heads 40, 41 and retractable latching means 42, 43, the plugs being aligned in the conduit means 22, 23 by cams (not shown). The re-entry conduit means 57 has sleeve valves 60, 61 for controlling flow through conduits 62, 63 to lock or unlock the closure 11 to the casing- head. The well-head is enclosed in a fluidtight chamber 66, the valves 18, 30, 31, 56 being remotely controlled. Specification 924,904 is referred to.
