Abstract

1,110,548. Boring earth &c. INSTITUT FRANCAIS DU PETROLE DES CARBURANTS ET LUBRIFIANTS. 3 Dec., 1965 [4 Dec., 1964], No. 51463/65. Heading E1F. A sub-aqueous core sampling apparatus comprises a frame A, B, C, D, 4, 5, 6, 7 adapted to rest on the bed 3, a motor and bit assembly 8, 9 guided on the frame and suspended from a hose 10, a reel 12 for hauling and storing the hose, a pump set 17, 18 for supplying water through the hose and motor to the bit, and a device 26 for braking the reel as the assembly is lowered for drilling and for rotating the reel as the assembly is hauled from the hole. The motor may be electrical or hydraulic. The device comprises two motors connected by a magnetic clutch, the arrangement being that the motors may work together to haul the assembly or that one motor acting through the clutch may retard the lowering of the assembly.
