Abstract
922,228. Winches; lifts. N. E. ANDERSSEN. July 14, 1959 [July 16, 1958], No. 24105/59. Classes 78 (3) and 78 (5). A builder's hoist of the kind having a pair of oppositely moving cages 8, 9, suspended from ropes 6, 7 wound in opposite directions on winch drums 4, 5 secured to a shaft 1 driven by a motor 2, and a pair of tension-sensing devices 20, 26, each applied against one of the ropes, has a single switch 14 (Fig. 5), which is actuated by either of the sensing devices to stop the motor in the event of either of the cables running slack. The devices 20, 26 are secured, respectively, to shafts 16, 17 by arms 18, 19 and 24, 25, and each shaft carries a cam 30, 31 (Fig. 5) which, on rotation of the associated shaft, raises a spring-loaded plunger 33 which, through a lever 36 pivoted at 37, operates the switch plunger 15. End stop gear.-In the event of either of the cages over running at the top of the hoist, a lever 51 is pivoted, thereby causing a cable 53 and lever 46 (Fig. 6), to rotate a shaft 47, carrying a cam 50 which causes lever 36 to operate switch 14 to de-energize the motor. Further switches 55, 56 are actuated by cams 59, 60 on the cages to de-energize the motor when the cages reach their lower limit of travel. Lifts.-A further cable 40 (Fig. 6), connected between lever 46, and gates 39 located at each landing, stops the motor when any one of the gates is moved to the vertical position.
