Abstract

1,082,264. Electric hoists; self-sustaining gear. BIRFIELD ENGINEERING Ltd. Sept. 17, 1965 [May 8, 1965], No. 19500/65. Heading B8B. In an electric hoist having the drive motor 17, Fig. 1, and rope drum 27 mounted on opposite sides of the runway beam 11 and drivingly connected by pulley belts 24, an anti-runback safety device 50 is adapted to operate in the event of a failure in the belt drive. The belts 24 normally support a loaded roller 53 on a double arm lever 51, 54 which engages in a notch 47 in an annulus (44) (Fig. 3, not shown) rotating with the pulley 23. An adjustable friction coupling 42 is provided between the annulus 44 and pulley 23 for smooth operation.
