Abstract
592,039. Lift cages; hoists. SIZER, A. W. July 29. 1944. No. 14509. [Classes 78(iii) and 78(v)] A hoist of the kind in which a pair of cages or platforms are interconnected by a rope passing over guide pulleys and a displaceable jockey pulley, so that as one cage or platform is lifted by a - predetermined amount the other is lowered, the displaceable jockey pulley allowing the length of travel of the cages or platforms to be adjusted, is characterised in that the jockey pulley is; mounted on a support carried by a pair of skeleton frameworks which form vertical guides for the cages or platforms. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 2 a pair of frameworks 1 form guides for cages 10, 11 suspended from a cable 9 which passes over hoisting drums 6 driven by an electric motor 5 and over a pulley 12 mounted on a carriage 13. This carriage may be adjusted along guides 14 formed by the frameworks by a spindle 16 which engages threaded bushes 15 on the carriage and is , rotatable through bevel gearing 17 connected by a shaft 19 provided with a hand crank. Stops may be provided on the frameworks, any one of which can be displaced into the path of one of the cages so that when the latter abuts against the stop the electric motor drive is automatically arrested. According to the Provisional Specification the drive to the hoist may be set in motion automatically by the operation of an electric switch, mechanical trip or the like by a load when this is placed on one of the cages or platforms.
