786,410. Slack-preventing. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AKTIEBOLAGET. June 1, 1956 [June 17, 1955], No. 16943/56. Classes 78 (4) and 78 (5). A device for preventing slack in the lifting rope of a crane, comprises a rotatable frame 5 carrying two rollers 6 which press on the rope 7 in opposite directions and is characterized in that the frame shaft 4 is provided with crank levers 8, 9 influenced respectively by compression springs 11, 13 whereby when the rope slackens the rollers move to take up the slack and, ultimately, operate a switch or governor 18 to cut out or slow down the winch drum motor. As shown, spring 13 acts upon lever 15 pivoted at 14 to the frame 1 the lever 15 being grooved at 17 concentrically about shaft 4 and the roller 16 of lever 9 rolling in the groove. Thus, for any small rotation of frame 5 as defined by roller 16 contacting groove 17, the frame is influenced clockwise against the rope by the single spring 11, but for any greater rotation, i.e. when roller 16 escapes from groove 17, the frame is influenced clockwise against the rope by both spring 11 and spring 13.
