Abstract
920,182. Thermionic cathode tubes. M-O VALVE CO. Ltd. Sept. 29, 1961 [Oct. 5, 1960], No. 34220/60. Class 39 (1). In a gas-filled discharge tube, an auxiliary electrode 11, disposed between cathode 4 and anode 9 and causing a constriction in the discharge path, comprises two parallel metal plates 12, 13, each provided with an elongated slot, and spaced by a length of metal tubing 16 through which cooling fluid is passed. The tubing 16 extends close to the whole length of one longitudinal edge of each slot 14, 15, but spaced therefrom so as not to interfere with the discharge. As shown in Fig. 2, a thyratron control grid comprises molybdenum plates 12, 13 formed with arcuate slots 14, 15, and brazed to copper tubing 16 which extends close to the inner edge of slot 14 and the outer edge of slot 15. The thyratron envelope is filled with deuterium and comprises metal sections 1, 2 forming terminals for cathode 4 and control grid 11 respectively, and a ceramic section 3. The anode 9 is hollow and water-cooled. Suitable dimensions are given.
