Abstract
943,022. X-ray tubes. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 21, 1961 [April 8, 1960], No. 12650/60. Heading H1D. An X-ray tube envelope comprises coaxial metal tubular members 2, 3 having an intermediate glass sleeve 4, member 2, supporting the anode 5 and providing one or more windows 14 permeable to X-rays, while the other member 3 supports the cathode structure 7 and has at its end remote from the glass sleeve 4 a further glass member 6 through which the leads 9, 10 to the cathode assembly are sealed. Member 2 may be rectangular at its anode end, changing to circular near the glass member 4; the windows 14 may be of beryllium and the tube is preferably operated with the anode earthed and the cathode assembly at a high negative potential. The anode is cooled by a fluid flowing through a cavity 16 formed behind the target surface of the anode.
