Abstract

916,371. Stays. TAYLOR & OSBORNE Ltd. June 9, 1961 [June 9, 1960; April 26, 1961], Nos. 20314/60 and 15020/61. Class 65 (1). A drop-leaf 10 of a table is supported by a curved strut 15 hinged to an attachment plate 13 on an upright 12 and slidable in a guide bracket on the drop-leaf, the strut being formed with a jaw 17 urged by a spring 26 into engagement with a transverse pin 28 in the bracket and a manually-operable device being pivoted on the pin to effect release of the jaw. The device comprises a pair of pivoted levers 23 formed with out-turned wings 24 and joined by an integral bridge-piece 25 which abuts the end 18 of the strut and rests on shoulders 22 formed by cutting away part of the side walls 19 of the bracket, the device being pivoted in the anti-clockwise direction to lift the strut free of the pin. The spring may be a blade spring, as shown, or a coil spring, and according to the second Provisional Specification, it could act on the strut through a plunger. The first Provisional Specification describes a torsion spring having divergent U-shaped arms one of which straddles the top of the strut whilst the other abuts the bracket. The lateral connection of the arm abutting the strut may be provided with a sleeve or roller to minimize friction.
