[Class 52 (ii)] A combined seat and bed comprises parts 7, 3, 6, 11 hinged together and disposed as shown in Fig. 2 when in seat position, the parts, when in the bed position, being aligned as shown in Fig. 1 while the part 7 is provided with rollers 8 which are adapted to roll up guides 9 so that the free end of the part 7 first rises above and clears the supports 45 secured to the back 1 and then swings downwardly to rest on the supports when the part 7 rises from the seat position to the bed position. The foot part 11 'is terminated in a cross stay 13 which carries swingable legs 35 connected together by a strap, the centre part of which forms a handle 34 for opening and closing the parts. In opening out the bed the handle 34 is pulled causing firstly the legs 35 to swing out into the supporting position, secondly the parts 11, 6 to swing down until the parts 6, 3 come into alignment, and thirdly the part 3 to swing about the pivots 5 carrying the part 7 with it into a horizontal position. Finally the foot part 11 and the foot board 41 are adjusted for use. Chain supporting surfaces 29, 30 are attached to the parts as shown by springs and a fabric cover 33 is provided. The foot board 41 is pivoted to the part 11 to enable it to be used for holding the mattress in position when the bed is folded up. A metal loop 16 with S- shaped limbs 17 attached to the part 6 forms the front of the seat part. in a modification two bed supports may be arranged side-by-side so that each may be operated independently, a narrow intermediate frame being provided to carry the pivot pins and guides.
