A roller mill is provided beyond the ends of rotatable crusher rollers 2, 3 with plates 7, 8 each having a slot 9 to allow non- crushable coarse and metallic pieces to drop therethrough. Shield plates 5, 6 provided near the ends of the rollers extend short of the roller nip. The plates 5, 7 and 6, 8 are connected by plates 10 to form a displaceable frame. Separator rollers 11, 12 are provided to discharge metallic ports through separate discharge conduits 13, 14. Screening devices may be provided in or below the discharge opening 15 for separating non-crushable coarse material discharged through the slots 9.
