Abstract

The means for retaining a hinged ventilator panel 1 in open and closed positions comprises a pair of links 9 at the edge remote from the hinge one end of each link being pivotally connected to a slide 10 retained in a guide 11 along an edge of either the panel or its frame 2 and the other end of each link being pivotally connected to the other of these parts and associated with yieldable locking means adapted to retain the link in a plurality of relative angular positions, the locking means being adapted to yield automatically to permit the angular setting of the panel to be altered in response to a push or pull exerted on the panel. In the embodiment illustrated in Fig. 1 the links have a common pivotal connection with the other part, which is shown as the panel, and the yieldable locking means comprises bosses 14 on the links formed with opposed mutually co-operating sinuous serrations 18 urged into engagement by a coil spring (not shown) located in the boss of the lowermost link. A hand-grip 16 is provided on the panel. The serrations are arranged so that they do not quite reach a position of full mutual interlocking when the panel is closed, so that a continuous closing force is provided. In an alternative embodiment (Figs. 6 and 7, not shown) the links have separate pivotal connections with the panel, the boss 14 of each link being in spring-loaded engagement with a complementary serrated boss secured to the panel.
