830,826. Latch fastenings. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Jan. 30, 1958 [Jan. 30, 1957], No. 3288/57. Class 44 An electric lighting fitting of the kind having a detachable light transmissive panel covering an opening which is intended to be lowermost in use of the fitting and which is hinged to one side of the opening so that the panel can be swung downwards to give access to the interior of the fitting includes at least one latch for the panel in which an L-shaped lever 7 working on a horizontal pivot 8 attached to a side of the panel away from the hinge line is arranged on closing the panel to engage a fixed pin 6 attached to the side of the opening, the lever having at the end of one arm a hook 9 with a cam head arranged to ride over the fixed pin so as to enable the hook to pass over the pin and close the latch under a spring or gravity bias and the other arm of the lever extending over an aperture 12 in the panel so that the latch can be released by an upward pressure on the arm rotating the lever hook clear of the fixed pin. As shown, the lever is biased by a spring 11.
