Abstract
907,774. Thermal switches. DIAMOND H SWITCHES Ltd. Jan. 2, 1961 [Jan. 8, 1960], No. 786/60. Class 38 (5). In a " cycling " switch, generally similar to that of Specification 815,111, a bimetallic member 30 heated by a heating coil 32a in parallel with the load acts on a lever 22 which engages a blade 14 of a snap-action switch through a spring-loaded plunger 18. The ratio of the open and closed periods is adjusted by a face cam 35 which acts on a compensating bimetal 31 pivoted at 22 with the primary bimetal 30. If the bimetal is allowed to heat up without control, i.e. by rotating the cam so that the compensating strip cannot engage it, and the cam is then returned to the position shown, the bimetal 30 will force lever 22 downwards and plunger 18 will open the switch until the blade 14 abuts a stop 17. The resilient plunger 18 now allows further deflection of the bimetal without damage to it. Further contacts operable by the rotation of the cam may be provided (Figs. 3, 4, not shown).
