Abstract

1,103,406. Thermal switches. ROBERTSHAW CONTROLS CO. 23 March, 1965 [April 20, 1964], No. 12323/65. Heading HlN. In a thermally responsive switch, the actuating and resetting means are so contructed and arranged that the contacts cannot be reclosed by the resetting means unless the temperature has fallen sufficiently. Housing 21 houses bi-metal disc 31, fixed contacts (41, 42, 43, 44), bridged by contacts 46, 47 urged into contact with the fixed contacts by springs 48, actuating member 49 extending between bi-metal 31 and bridging contacts 46 47 and reset member 53 comprising a pushbutton 54 and integral shaft having a slot (58) fitting over the actuating member 49. When disc 31 snaps over when the temperature rises to the predetermined value it moves member 49 opening the contacts. If the temperature has fallen sufficiently, when reset member 53 is depressed its end 57 bears on disc 31 causing it to snap back to its original position so that springs 48 reclose the contacts. If the temperature has not fallen sufficiently, when reset member 53 is depressed it forces disc 31 into a flat position, Fig. 9 (not shown), but since disc 31 does not snap over, member 49 maintains the contacts open. In a modification, only one pair of contacts is provided and the actuating member 49 is modified in shape accordingly.
