Abstract

907,479. Typewriters &c. COMPAGNIE DES MACHINES BULL. Sept. 23, 1959 [Oct. 8, 1958], No. 32428/59. Class 100 (4). A continuously rotating type wheel printing machine has a hammer 44 for each type wheel 1 which strikes at a timed instant in the machine cycle under the action of a pre-tensioned spring 39 when a pulse applied to an electromagnet 6 releases a control member 11 which is then engaged by a toothed cylinder 5 rotating synchronously with the type wheels. A timed pulse to the electromagnet 6 attracts a blade 8 releasing it from the shoulder 13 of the member 11 which is then swung by a spring 14 first against a movable abutment 23 and then against a fixed abutment 21 from which it does not rebound. In this position a boss 19 is engaged by the next tooth of the cylinder 5 and thus swings up pivoting a member 26 to relase an arm 35 of a member 36 which under the action of the pre-tensioned spring 39 pivots clockwise causing the hammer 44 to strike. The member 36 is arrested first by a movable abutment 51 and then without rebound by a fixed abutment 55. Movement of the abutment 51 causes it to vary the magnetic field of an electromagnet 57 causing a winding 59 to send a pulse to a control circuit of the machine. After the printing cycle a re-cocking bar 61 restores the arms 35 which become re-latched by the members 26 while release of the electromagnet 6 allows the shoulders 13 of the members 11 to be re-engaged by the blades 8. The striking force of all the hammers can be adjusted simultaneously by means of an eccentric shaft 50 adjusting the position of levers 40 to which the springs 39 are attached and second levers 47 on which the levers 40 are pivoted. The position of the boss 19 relative to the toothed cylinder 5 can be adjusted by positioning a pivot screw 43 of a lever 22 mounting the abutment 21 in a slot 17. The timing of the hammer striking can be adjusted by pivoting the plate 7 mounting the electromagnet 6 and the member 11 about a screw 67. Specification 427,370 is referred to.
