Abstract

901,574. Heating yarns by electric resistances. KLINGER MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd., and MATTINGLY, D. A. E. Jan. 6, 1961 [Oct. 28, 1959], No. 36644/59. Class 39 (3). [Also in Groups IX and XIII] A heater for a travelling yarn, e.g. a thermoplastic yarn, passing along grooves 11 in a metal body 10 comprises resistive heating elements along grooves 12, the expansion and contraction of the body relative to a rod 15 actuating contacts 23, 24 in the heater circuit through block 27. A plurality of pairs of contacts may be provided along the length of the body and connected to a selector, for maintarring the body at different temperatures, and the movement between them may be magnified by a compound arrangement of metal parts of high and low co-efficients of expansion alternately arranged and secured together at alternate ends. A thermometer is provided with its bulb 32 placed in a hole in the metal body, and the body is encased in plastics bonded glass fibres 29, 30 enclosed in a casing 28.
