Abstract

987, 093. Measuring temperature electrically. G. H. HEATH & CO. Ltd. March 22, 1962 [March 22, 1961], No.10387/61. Heading G1N. A heating arrangement, for use in the thermal treatment of travelling yarn, comprises a plurality of temperature responsive means such as series connected thermocouples or a resistance thermometer having a distributed winding, so that the average heater temperature is obtained. The heater comprises an element 13 (Fig. 1) in contact with a grooved, copper, yarn contact portion 11 to whose ends an iron wire 15 and a constanton wire 16 constituting a thermocouple are respectively attached and connected to a meter 17 indicating average temperature. Alternatively several discrete thermocouples may be spaced along the portion 11. In an alternative construction (Fig. 3, not shown), an insulated resistance thermometer element is wound with the element 13 and included in a Wheatstone bridge circuit. The temperature signal may be used to control the heating current.
