Abstract

1,199,878. Resistance thermometer. ROSEMOUNT ENG. CO. Ltd. 2 May, 1969 [17 July, 1968], No. 33979/68. Heading H1K. The two elements of a hermetically sealed resistance thermometer each consist of a platinum sheath 10 containing a helical platinum sensing element insulated from the sheath by a woven sleeve of vitreous silica fibre. A nickel block 12 has platinum sleeves 14 brazed into bores 13 therein. After removal of flux from the block assembly the platinum sheaths 10 are sealed into the sleeves 14 by fusion or by fluxless brazing. The sensing elements are connected in series and the two free ends 11 are sealed into platinum sleeves 17 attached to the end of double nickel or platinum leads 15. The leads run through ceramic spacers held by a refractory potting material within a housing 18. The nickel block is argon-arc welded to the housing which is sealed at its other end by a plug or receptacle 20 attached to the lead wires. The sensing elements are mounted within a stagnation sheath (Fig. 4, not shown) to measure the jet-pipe temperature in an aircraft engine.
