Abstract
893,036. Plastic containers; opening containers. PLASTOMATIC CORPORATION. Oct. 31, 1960 [Nov. 10, 1959], No. 37388/60. Classes 18 and 66. A container 10 of synthetic plastics material comprises a body 11 and closure 12 one of which has an integral hinge strip 14 for sealing, preferably by the use of heat, to the other of said parts and both said parts having at least one integral tear-off element 13, 16 which are sealed together respectively. Tearing of the elements 13, 16 enables the lid to hinge open. A bead 15 on the closure engages an inturned lip on the body, Fig. 7, when the closure is applied. In a modification, Figs. 9 and 10 a groove 26 in the flange 25 of the closure extends along the front and two sides of the container thereby defining a tear-off bead 13A and a hinge 14A. Or, Figs. 16-17 (not shown), the container may be divided in two by an internal wall to which separate closures for each half of the container are hinged, the closures each having a tear strip so that they may be opened independently of each other. The container may be of polyethylene, polypropylene, styrene, acetate, or nylon.
