Abstract

1,075,949. Container closures. P. S. VAN BAARN. Aug. 26, 1964 [Oct. 21, 1963], No. 35066/64. Heading B8T. A container closure of a resilient material comprises a lid 7 to embrace and seal the container mouth and an anchor band 4 permanently engaged around the container neck 18 below the lid 7, the lid 7 being attached to the anchor band 4 by a hinge 3 and the lid 7 being provided with a plurality of annular sealing ribs each simultaneously engageable with a separate zone of the container neck 18 to minimize leakage. The lid 7 is provided with two ribs, 14 and 16, engageable with a groove 15 and the rim 17 respectively to provide two seals, and an internal skirt 19 having a rib 20 provides a third seal as shown. Initially the lid 7 and the anchor band 4 are joined along their circumferences by a tear strip. A resilient catch is provided comprising a single lug 12 and a pair of lugs 10, the lugs having interongageable ears to hold the lid open (Fig. 4). The positions of the lug 12 and the lugs 10 can be reversed. In a modification (Fig. 6), the catch is instead provided by a plate or prong (21) depending from the inside of the lid 7, which, when the lid is open, presses against the rim 17 and thus supports the lid.
